Tlitli with Chicken (Pasta)

Tlitli with chicken - Algerian style!
Yield: 6 servings

Cook Time: 90 minutes

Ingredients
  • 1 whole chicken
  • 1 cup canned chick-peas
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon tomato puree , concentrate
  • 2 onions
  • 2 garlic clove , minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon ras el hanout spice mix
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 lb orzo pasta
  • 1 chicken stock cube

Directions
  1. Cut chicken up into 8 individual pieces.
  2. Brown in a large pan the finely chopped onions, garlic, Ras El Hanout, salt and pepper with olive oil.
  3. Add 1 cup water & cook for 10 minutes
  4. Add the chick peas, the tomato puree and the stock cube. Add enough water to cover the ingredients.
  5. Cover and cook on medium heat for 1.5 hour.
  6. Hard boil the 4 eggs, then peel & cut into quarters.
  7. In a bowl, mix the orzo pasta with 1/2 cup water and a drizzle of olive oil. Place in a steamer and steam for 15 minutes. Remove and separate the pasta gently with a little water.
  8. Put the pasta in a large pan and slowly add the sauce until it is absorbed by the fully cooked pasta. - the pasta should now be moist.
  9. Place pasta in a large serving dish and top with the chicken pieces, the zucchini and turnips, chick peas and sauce. Decorate with the egg quarters.
